Biloxi Has a New C.A.O

Biloxi leaders have finally come to a decision on who will replace David Nicholls as the city’s chief administrative officer.
In a 6-1 vote today, the City Council voted to accept Mayor FoFo Gilich’s nomination to hire Biloxi native and Marine veteran Mike Leonard to the position.
Leonard retired as a colonel from the Marines in 1997. His 28 year Marine Corps career included serving as public works director of a major installation. The 68-year-old also has a master’s degree in engineering administration.
Leonard will take a salary of $105,000 a year. His first day on the job is scheduled to be October 1st.
Ward Four Councilman Robert Deming was the only council member opposed to the nomination. He tells News 25 he thinks the position should have been advertised in an effort to seek the most qualified candidate.
