Construction to fix the damaged lighthouse pier is finally underway in the city of Biloxi.
The lighthouse pier was damaged back in October when Hurricane Nate hit the gulf coast.
Biloxi spokesman, Vincent Creel tells News 25 the length of time it took to get construction up and running was because they had to get state and federal approval and these types of permits can take a decent amount of time.
Matthew Phelps, a beach goer says, “I think it’s going to be great. We walked out on the pier down a few miles down the road and it was very nice to walk out there. It’s just a nice area and it’s a nice beach. You know.”
“Having that fixed obviously will help because it’s something that people want to use. It’s obviously a historic landmark. I think it’s a great thing that they are gonna fix it,” said Elton Ladd, another person enjoying the beach.
Construction of the Lighthouse Pier should be done by the end of July.
