Biloxi Cemetery Tour

The month of May marks the start of the Biloxi Preservation Series, also known as Preservation in May.

Preservation in May is the city’s month-long salute to Biloxi’s colorful past and its deep historical roots. It kicks off tonight with a free mini-tour of the northern section of the Biloxi Cemetery. The Northside Cemetery Tour will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Old Biloxi Cemetery, north of Irish Hill Drive and the CSX Railway.

Biloxi Historical Administrator Bill Raymond told News 25 they wanted this tour to be on the north side of the cemetery because not as many people know about this area. “We have the Clay family, the Dosha family, and the Ellis family. Mr. Ellis was a boat owner and owned multiple shrimp boats and that is a tie to the African-American seafood industry that people don’t really know about. I think that is a good chance for us to tell that story. This is our opportunity to bring people over here to learn about the history of Biloxi.”
