Biloxi Bike Paths Open Today

Two accidents involving cyclists over the past week have put biking safety in the spotlight and the city of Biloxi is looking to keep cyclists safe with a new bike path.
The mayor presided over the ribbon cutting ceremony this morning on Howard Avenue just in front of MGM Park. The director of public works, who is an avid cyclist himself, says this project has been on the drawing board for a while, and since the roads were being repaved for the baseball stadium anyway, it was too good a chance to pass up. Cyclists now have a safer alternative to HWY 90 while also freeing up the sidewalks for pedestrians.
Dan Gaillet, city of Biloxi public works director, said, “We’ve taken a lot of pride in what we’ve started here. Even though this project is done, it’s just a start to what we’re looking at city wide.”
