Big check goes to helping local cancer patients

Cancer patients in need are getting some extra help thanks to a big donation in memory of a man who recently lost his life.
A check presentation to Gulfport Memorial Hospital Foundation was made in memory of Rick Amos who passed away after a nine month battle with cancer. The $7,000 donation will go towards assisting patients who are struggling while undergoing treatment.
Amos was on the board of trustees for Memorial Hospital for five years. His twin sister, Vicky Amos, tells News 25 her brother was fun loving, driven and really loved to get back in the community. “He would still just want to go and do everything that he would normally do. It’s like, you really didn’t know he was sick until he just couldn’t do anything, but Rick was a fighter. I guess he wanted all of us to make sure we continue to fight and try to win the battle.”
The money was raised by friends and the Biloxi Center Stage Theatre in June. Officials say the donation will help at least 70 to 100 families in our community.
