Bel-Aire Elementary School Wins Breast Cancer Challenge
Bel-Aire Elementary School is making major strides in the fight against breast cancer. The Gulfport elementary school’s gym was filled with pink this afternoon as kids chanted, shook pink pom-poms and held up signs that read ‘let’s beat cancer.’
The assembly was for winning the 2016 Making Strides against Breast Cancer school challenge. Bel-Aire raised $2,250 for the challenge, beating out all the schools on the Coast.
News 25 caught up with a teacher that says the campaign is close to her heart because she has friends fighting against the disease. First grade teacher Kathy Stringer said, “When I talked to staff members and other friends I realized just how prevalent breast cancer is. It’s out there. It’s very common now and I think us raising as much money as we did is going to help greatly towards a cure. ”
The American Cancer Society attended the check presentation pep rally. Together all of the schools in Harrison County raised a total of $4,652.
