Beauvoir Bringing Lost Items Back
Workers at Beauvoir are in the process of bringing some items that were lost in Hurricane Katrina back to the museum.
The structure that carried the body of Jefferson Davis through the streets of New Orleans during his funeral procession is coming back to Beauvoir after undergoing years of restoration and repair in New Orleans.
The museum worked carefully to recover as much of the original artifacts as possible before beginning the restoration process. Dave Johnson with Galvotech said, “We’ve worked on many other civil war things, the submarines that was in New Orleans that’s up in Baton Rouge now. It’s another project we worked on. It’s just very interesting to be able to learn the history of it, but also do the work to preserve it for the future.”
The 30th annual Fall Muster takes place this weekend at Beauvoir.
