BBQ under the Oaks

The Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra celebrates 30 years of smokin’ fun at the annual Barbecue under the Oaks.

The barbecue is the only fundraiser for the symphony orchestra. The event features the friendly competitive spirit of about 30 cooking teams of ‘rib-meisters’ as they try to out-do each other to create the best barbecue to thrill the crowds taste-buds.

Rib-meisters prepared in advance for the big event to slow smoke their meats before the crowds arrive. While the guests waited, music, games, and prizes kept this event fun as locals came out for a great time. Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra Secretary Rick Liwanag said, “It is just awesome. Everybody that comes here comes because they are so generous to the symphony. They are supporting the symphony. They are showing their support by bringing us their food.”

There was also a ticket drawing for one lucky person to win ten thousand dollars.
