Bay St. Louis shooting victim dies

One of the men shot last week at a park in Bay St. Louis has died.

The Hancock County Coroner’s Office tells News 25 that 23-year-old D’Ante Washington has died as a result of gunshot wounds he received on June 6th at the Martin Luther King Jr. Park on Washington Street.

At the time of the shooting, he was transferred to a New Orleans hospital for treatment. Police said a second man was also shot and treated for a non-life threatening wound.

News 25 spoke to Washington’s uncle, Wayne Washington, who tells us how the family is coping with his death. “We got the news around Sunday that he wasn’t going to make it. It’s been very hard especially for my sister because that was her first child and my mom because it was her first grandson. So, it’s been very hard for the family and we’ve been taking it one day at a time and stuff.”

Wayne tells us D’Ante Washington leaves behind a one-year-old son and a wife.

Gulfport resident Armon Joseph Crawford has been taken into custody for questioning in relation to the shooting, but no charges have been made in this case.
