Bay St. Louis chief of police resignation investigation

Less than 24 hours after the Bay St. Louis chief of police resigned, the city council met today for a recessed meeting, but the investigation was not discussed to the public.
However, News 25 spoke with Mayor Mike Favre who confirmed there is an investigation into a reported body cam video displaying Chief Darren Freeman choking a handcuffed suspect. During the city council meeting, the mayor appointed a temporary chief of police to replace Freeman.
Mayor Favre tells News 25 the investigation will continue. “There is an investigation going on with some tape and we talked about it and all and discussed the situation and everything and agreed to a resignation right now and he’s looking into some other things so he can move on.”
Detective Sergeant Matt Issman was appointed to control day to day operations until a permanent replacement is found for Chief Freeman.
