Battle on the Beach Brings College Hockey to the Coast

Biloxi, MS – October 12, 2015 – South Mississippi Hockey, along with Hard Rock Café Biloxi, Twin Peaks, Budweiser, and the Coast Coliseum are bringing the “Coolest Game on the Coast” back this November 13th and 14th with the Inaugural Battle on the Beach. The College Hockey Showcase will feature Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Tulane, and Middle Tennessee State vying for the Budweiser Battle on the Beach Trophy. Additionally, Ole Miss and Mississippi State will be facing off for Magnolia State bragging rights and the Shrimp Boil Trophy.

The Battle on the Beach will be a Military Appreciation Weekend, with a portion of the proceeds from the event going to USO Gulf Coast and Wounded Warriors of Mississippi. Military members and veterans will receive $5 off the regular ticket price.

Tickets go on sale this week, and are $30 per day, with two games of intense college hockey action. Seniors, Children under 12, and military members and veterans get in for $25 per day. Former Sea Wolves and Surge season ticket holders are $40 for the weekend, with their old seats reserved for them.

“We believe doing an event like this should be about the community and should also be a way for us to say ‘Thank You’ to the loyal hockey fans in South Mississippi who have continued to love the game for almost 20 years,” said South Mississippi Hockey President Andy Makal. “In our market, or any market really, every night should be Military Appreciation Night, but the timing of this event allows us an opportunity to give back a little to those whom we owe so much.”

The two day event will highlight the growth of hockey in the South, with homegrown players participating on two of the teams.

“It’s pretty amazing to see kids who grew up playing hockey on the Gulf Coast going on to play college hockey. It’s a testament to the youth hockey programs and coaches who have worked with them as well as to the kids who kept going with the sport they love,” Makal added.

Tickets will be available at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum Box Office and online at the Coast Coliseum website.

Public skating at the Coast Coliseum begins Friday, November 6th and runs through January 10th. South Mississippi Youth Hockey programs begin November 7th. Anyone interested in participating should contact South Mississippi Hockey at 228-236-4625 or visit www.southmsyouthhockey.org
