Battle of Midway commemoration at Keesler
This week marks the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Midway. Today, a ceremony at Keesler Air Force Base commemorated the historic battle.
The Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit hosted the ceremony. Keesler sailors, marines, and airmen were in attendance along with ten U.S veterans from the Armed Forces Retirement Home.
The Battle of Midway is seen as the U.S. Navy’s most significant naval victory and turning point of World War II.
Leaders News 25 spoke with today say today’s ceremony was about connecting our past to our future. AT2 Alexandra Beck with Keesler Air Force Base said, “We learned so many amazing things at Midway and they’re so important to what we do today from information dominance warfare to how our carrier strike groups operate today. We want to take those lessons and carry them forward in addition to recognizing the sacrifice of over 300 Americans that lost their lives and to continue their lives and to continue and carry that forward and make sure we’re honoring that legacy.”
The Battle of Midway happened June 4th through June 7th in 1942.
