Baseball Returns to the Coast
Baseball is finally back at MGM Park but it won’t be the Biloxi Shuckers hitting the diamond.
Southwestern Athletic Conference rivals Jackson State and Southern University will be the first teams to take the field tonight. This matchup is only the first of nine Division 1 college games at MGM Park this year. Tomorrow night, Golden Eagles fans will be able to catch their team live in action as USM is set to take on South Alabama. Opening pitch for both games is set for 7:05.
The collegiate games are proof on Overtime Sports carrying through on their promise to bring more than just Shuckers baseball to the Coast. Overtime Sports President Tim Bennett said, “It’s really what it does for the community. So many people come out for the community college games. We’ve got high school games coming this week and now having the Division 1 colleges coming in is a big deal for us and really promotes tourism. It gets people in the park and it does what we said we’re going to do, not just professional baseball but also doing a lot of other events as well.”
College teams aren’t the only ones getting in on the action. Biloxi High will square off against D’iberville High on Thursday.
