Ban On Abortion Funding

The Mississippi house is advancing a bill to block the state Medicaid program from spending money with any group affiliated with an abortion provider.

The original proposal was first aimed at Planned Parenthood, but it appears to mirror a state law that already prohibits public funding of most abortions.

The house passed senate bill by a large majority and now it returns to the senate for more work.

Mississippi Medicaid has only spent a little over five hundred dollars in the past three years for Planned Parenthood services including cancer screenings.

No Planned Parenthood in Mississippi offers abortion services.
