Back the Blue softball tournament

Hundreds gathered together this weekend in Ocean Springs to support a fallen hero.

The inaugural Back the Blue co-ed softball tournament took the field at the Ocean Springs Sports Complex for Officer Robert McKeithen. Thirty-six teams comprised of supporters, law enforcement, first responders, and military all teamed up for the chance to be named tournament champions.

All of the proceeds from the event went straight to the family of Robert McKeithen.

Tournament organizer Eric Holley tells News 25 that he felt like it was his duty to do something benefiting Officer McKeithen. “It hit home, literally, it was right here in our community. Those kind of things don’t typically happen here and then Robert was an Air Force veteran, I’m a vet, and the chairman of our foundation is also a vet. We wanted to get behind that and we lost one of our own.”

Holley says the tournament was such a huge success they have already begun the stages of planning next year’s tournament.
