B.A. Vollmuth stepping away from coaching

Less than a week after losing Chad Caillet to Texas A&M, the Southern Miss baseball program is losing yet another vital component to its coaching staff in the form of B.A. Vollmuth.

As first reported by WDAM out of Hattiesburg and later confirmed to News 25 by Head Coach Scott Berry, Vollmuth is stepping away from USM to go into private business.

The former Biloxi Indian has been on staff as a volunteer assistant for each of the past five seasons after leaving his mark as one of the best power hitters in Golden Eagle history from 2009 to 2011.

Of course, Vollmuth brought a wealth of knowledge from USM’s 2009 World Series run, leaving a significant void in the dugout heading into the 2020 season.

The Black and Gold made four straight regional appearances to close out his tenure.
