Autopsy results set to be released Wednesday for 4-month-old boy killed during Monday police chase
BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV) — Autopsy results are set to be released by noon Wednesday for a four-month-old boy killed Monday during a two-state police chase.
Authorities announced Tuesday morning that the child died at a Mobile, Alabama hospital.
The four-month-old boy has been identified as La’Mello Parker.
Police said Tuesday it’s unclear whether the child was struck by a bullet or shrapnel.
Around 11:30 a.m. Monday, deputies with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana responded to the scene of a double murder in the city of Barker, which marked the beginning of a hunt that eventually ended on Interstate 10 in Harrison County.
Officials say 30-year-old Eric Smith entered the home of his ex-girlfriend, Christin Parker, and fatally shot her and her nephew, Brandon Parker.
Smith then fled in his Nissan Altima with his four-month-old child just before 3 p.m., traveling east on I-10 toward Gulfport.
The chase eventually came to an end near the Woolmarket exit when Smith drove into the grass median and was stuck.
Gunfire was exchanged and Smith was shot and killed at the scene.
This is a developing story.
