State Attorney General on Mississippi Budget Woes

Attorney General Jim Hood says Mississippi’s budget is a mess because the legislature has been cutting taxes to help campaign donors.
Hood also says Republican legislative leaders are only letting a few senators and representatives take part in the budget writing process, leaving most with little influence over how money is spent.
Mississippi lawmakers voted to move special funds into the general state budget for the year that started July 1st, leaving confusion among agency directors. Hood says the change was made with too little consideration of consequences and he hopes the state can “hobble through” until the regular legislative session opens in January.
