Astros Defeated In World Series: What Last Night’s Game Means for History Making Sports Bet in Ms.
Imagine having millions of dollars on the line, all hinging on your favorite baseball team winning a game. It’s something Jim McIngvale, also known as “Mattress Mack,” knows all too well and experienced firsthand as his favorite team, the Houston Astros, headed into game seven of the World Series last night. Well, his team lost, and with that millions of dollars he had on the line slipped through his fingers!
It’s a story we’ve been following, along with the national media, for several weeks now starting here locally with his initial $3.5 million wager at D’Iberville’s Scarlet Pearl Casino on his hometown Astros, to win the Fall Classic back at the start of the post-season. Since that time, Mr. Mack has pressed that bet several times capped off by a $700,000 ticket just this week.
Well, Mattress Mack lost millions on last night’s game as the Washington Nationals pulled off a 6-2 win over the Houston Astros. It was certainly a nail biter, as we found out last night at the Scarlet Pearl Casino as the game played out on the big screen Wednesday night with fans from both teams in the crowd, as well as Scarlet Pearl’s CEO Luann Pappas.
“ Well, it’s a mixed bag. We call it Sophie’s Choice, though, and I think a lot of people feel the same way. If you’re going to do this with your heart, you’re going to bet with Mattress Mack because of what he does. I mean tonight, he’s got over 100 children with cancer at the game tonight. Last night, it was over 100 veterans at the game. If I’m going to bet with my head or anyone else’s, you’re going to say I want to win the bet,” Pappas said.
“It’s very exciting. It’s very exciting because the casino is the only one that took this bet at the scarlet pearl. And i’m enjoying to be in the company of the scarlet pearl to watch it in action. Live,” said Greg Miranda, New Orleans resident, rooting for Astros.
“It’s a lot of money. It’s almost hard to imagine. I’m a very small bettor. So it becomes hard to even comprehend it. So we’re hoping that no matter no matter who wins, everybody benefits and has a good time,” said Carol Gettig, a Spring Hill, Florida resident, rooting for Nationals.
A disappointing night, though, Greg Miranda, and Mattress Mack, when the Nationals pulled off a 6-2 win. Had the Astros won Mattress Mack would’ve taken home more than $15-million, but he’s proven to be a good sport about it, saying quote, ” I would do this again tomorrow.”
