Ashton LeBlanc leaves legacy at Gulfport
Fresh off back to back class 6A state championships, team success is translating into personal recognition for Gulfport soccer standout Ashton LeBlanc who is now the recipient of back to back Gatorade Player of the Year awards.
Last week, the graduating senior took home the honor for Mississippi for the second year in a row and it is certainly well-deserved praise.
In 2019, LeBlanc was the center back of a defense that allowed more than one goal only twice across 25 games. Overall, the Admirals allowed just 16 goals while pitching 12 shutouts. On an individual level, LeBlanc put the ball in the back of the net three times to go along with two assists.
He’ll be continuing his soccer career at the division I level with Tulsa where he’ll be in good company amongst fellow Gatorade alums. “Since I won it my junior year, I kind of set a standard for myself if I didn’t win it again then I kind of lowered in my ability I guess. But then to win it again, it meant a lot to me. It’s a good thing for high school but going into college, I know I’m not the only one even on that team that’s won the award. So it’s a great way to end my high school career.”
LeBlanc says he’ll be heading off to Tulsa on July 1st.
