“Art on Ice” 2017 Mississippi Coast Coliseum

Recently, fourth through sixth graders from across the Coast submitted artwork to the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center Facebook page for the Art on Ice contest.
This year’s theme was ‘Christmas around the World.’ Today, the ten entries with the most votes online got to paint their masterpiece on the coliseum ice. Students could only use five colors: blue, red, yellow, green, and black. The winning schools received gift cards for arts and craft supplies.
News 25 caught up with one student about his school’s successful strategy for crafting a winning project. Bennet Trahan from Coast Episcopal School said, “Our art teacher, Ms. Johnson, found out about this contest online and we were doing an explore the world project in social studies and language arts. It works perfectly because we were studying holidays around the world and so we all made ornaments with symbols from each of our countries we had chosen.”
Those winning pieces were selected based on categories of interpretation of the theme, originality, and creativity.
