Arrested for shooting at Gulf Mist Apartments in Gulfport

Two people were sent to the hospital and one man is behind bars following a shooting at an apartment complex on Saturday in Gulfport.

The Gulfport Police Department arrested 26-year-old Ja’Quawn Cleveland and charged him with one count of domestic violence aggravated assault, and one count of aggravated assault.

Around 6:50 a.m., the Gulfport Police Department responded to Gulf Mist Apartments on Pass Road in reference to a shooting.

Officers found a male victim in the parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds and a female victim inside of the apartment suffering from a single gunshot wound.

The male victim was transported to a hospital where he was listed in stable condition and the female victim was life-flighted and is listed in critical condition.

Detectives said there had been a verbal altercation which then led to Cleveland shooting the female one time and shooting the male victim multiple times.

Cleveland fled the scene and then later turned himself in. His bond is set at $500,000.
