Man Arrested In Jackson County For The Stabbing Death Of Dee Whigham
One man is now in custody in connection to the St. Martin stabbing that left one transgender woman dead in a hotel Saturday night.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department arrested 20-year-old Dwanya Hickerson of New Orleans at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi. Hickerson is in the Navy and was assigned to Keesler for training.
Someone on base recognized him from surveillance video released by the Best Western in St. Martin.
Hickerson is accused of stabbing 25-year-old Dee Whigham at the Best Western late Saturday night.
Investigators say there is still no clear motive. Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said, “Well at this time this is the only person we have charged. We don’t have any other information at this point that we would charge anybody else. We’re going to follow every lead and pursue everything that we can on this case so that we can make sure that we have everything done.”
Hickerson is charged with capital murder and is being held at the Jackson County Adult Detention Center.
An autopsy for the body of the victim is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
