Arrest Made in Gulfport Armed Robbery

On July 27, 2016, the Gulfport Police Department arrested 23 year old Byron Michael Fairley, of Gulfport, on the charge of Armed Robbery.
Fairley’s arrest was the result of a patrol response to Bancorp South bank located at 15410 5th Street in reference to a reported bank alarm at 9:21 a.m. Upon arrival, officers were advised that a described suspect entered the bank brandishing a black handgun while wearing a hooded jacket, a hat, and carrying a book bag. The suspect later pointed the handgun at a bank teller and demanded money. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of currency, the suspect fled the bank. The robbery was captured on the bank surveillance system. It was later determined that the handgun was a BB gun.
Based on the description given, officers located a suspect in the area of Clarence Drive and Klein Road. Upon observing the officers, the suspect fled on foot and was later located and arrested in the wooded area west of Harris Drive. At the time of his arrest, the suspect was unarmed.
On July 16, 2016, the Gulfport Police Department became familiar with Fairley due to his submission of a rap video to Facebook. The video contained anti-police statements and threats to law enforcement as a response to recent shootings involving law enforcement in other states. The video was filmed in front of the police headquarters building next a marked police vehicle.
After booking and other procedures, Fairley was transported to the Gulfport Police Department to be held in lieu of a $200,000.00 bond set by Harrison County Justice Court Judge Louise D. Ladner.
