Arrest made in fatal pedestrian involved accident in Gulfport

On March 29, 2021, the Gulfport Police Department arrested 57-year-old Michael Robin Kirgan and charged him with two felony counts of leaving the scene of an accident.

On March 28, 2021 at approximately 7:38 p.m., officers of the Gulfport Police Department responded to the area of Pratt Avenue and East Beach Blvd. to investigate a crash in which two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a Jeep traveling west on East Beach Blvd struck two pedestrians. One of the pedestrians, identified as 77-year-old Marjorie Freeman of North Carolina, was pronounced deceased. A second pedestrian was taken to an area hospital and is listed in critical condition.

The investigation revealed that the Jeep was driven Michael Robin Kirgan of Morton, Illinois. Further investigation revealed that Kirgan did not immediately stop to render aid to the two pedestrians and continued traveling west on East Beach Blvd.

Kirgan later returned to the area of the crash and spoke to officers at the scene. Based on the findings of the investigation, arrest warrants were issued charging Kirgan with two felony counts of leaving the scene of an accident.

Kirgan was located at a residence in Long Beach and was arrested without incident. Upon completion of the booking process, Kirgan was transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Facility where he being is held in lieu of $50,000.00 bond as set by Harrison County Justice Court Judge Melvin Ray.
