Arrest made in Escatawpa armed robbery

A suspect is in custody for the hold up of an Escatawpa convenience store earlier this week.
Eighteen-year-old Laleon Smothers was arrested by police in Moss Point yesterday. Sheriff Mike Ezell says Monday afternoon Smothers walked into Huntley’s, also known as Buff Convenience Store, on Highway 613 allegedly armed with a gun and made off with an undetermined amount of cash.
Smothers is charged with armed robbery and is being held at the Jackson County Jail on a $100,000 bond. Smothers is also a suspect in an armed robbery in Mobile.
