Armed with a purpose: St. Vincent de Paul Society
How would you like to have a new home for the holidays? It could become a reality if you’re the lucky winner of St. Vincent de Paul Society’s Thanksgiving home giveaway.
News 25’s Toni Miles gives us a tour of this year’s lovely home and shows us what it takes to get your name in the pot to win the house and all the appliances that come along with it.
D’Iberville’s Sacred Heart President Sandra Babuchna considers herself a servant, along with all the other volunteer workers who lend a hand with the many services provided by the St. Vincent de Paul Society. “Here at St. Vincent de Paul Sacred Heart Ministries in D’Iberville, we provide groceries, we provide rental assistance. We provide assistance with utilities. People have to meet a certain criteria. The main criteria is they have to live within the area that we service. Each St. Vincent de Paul conference services a different area.”
Babuchna says food drives put on by schools and the post office, combined with the generosity of parishioners and other South Mississippi benefactors, helps keep food on the shelves, but the need is continual and always there, especially during the holidays. “We’re here to help in the best way we can.”
It takes money and donations to keep these shelves stocked. You can help them do just that by purchasing one of the home giveaway tickets. You’ll have a chance to own the keys to a dream home on Dismuke Drive in Biloxi. St. Vincent de Paul Spokesperson Bruce Marie said, “Tickets are a hundred dollars. We would love for them to come visit us, see the house in person.”
The Biloxi home is just over 2,100 square feet, heated and cooled with an additional 240 square feet of porch area. All that glitters isn’t gold, but one ticket could buy you the dream home and help better arm the St. Vincent de Paul Society to care for South Mississippians providing the light some of our Coast families need. “The dear Lord tells us to take care of your fellow man and that’s what the mission is about,” said Babuchna.
The house is located at 15021 Dismuke Drive in Biloxi. An open house is held daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until the giveaway drawing on Friday, November 24th. The goal is to sell 2,500 tickets. If this number is not met, the prize will be $100,000. For more information visit www.svdphomegiveaway.com
