Arlington Heights Elementary School to Celebrate International Walk to School Day

Arlington Heights Elementary School in Pascagoula will join schools from around the world to celebrate International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 8th, 2014.

Approximately 300 students from Arlington will be walking and rolling to school Wednesday along with parents, teachers, and guests.

The event will begin at 7:00 a.m. with kids, parents, and teachers meeting at Arlington Heights Baptist Church. Walking will begin to the school shortly thereafter. Other special activities associated with the walk include the students wearing shades or hats to celebrate “Cool Kids Walk to School,” constructing posters to carry during the walk, and special prizes for student walkers.

Walk to School Day events raise awareness of the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment. The events build connections between families, schools, and the broader community.
