April 5th Is National Service Day

The Harrison County Board of Supervisors declared April 5th to be Mayor and County Recognition Day for National Service.
The declaration was made in support of Senior Corps. The national chapter of the organization, which also includes AmeriCorps, encourages mayors and county officials to spotlight the impact of service and to thank those who serve.
Local chapter members hope the county can highlight all the wonderful work seniors do in Harrison County. Mag Holland with Senior Corps said, “Our seniors do disaster preparedness. Our volunteers go out into the areas and educate seniors on the newest scams and things like that. We build wheelchair ramps. We do whatever it takes to keep seniors healthy. We teach disaster services on how to keep them safe and whatever our community needs.”
