Applications Still Being Taken for Funding Through BP Oil Spill Settlement

The Gulf Coast Restoration Fund Advisory Board plans to meet tomorrow as the group continues to accept applications for projects to be funded through the BP Oil Spill Settlement with the state.

The fund was set up back in September of last year, after Mississippi lawmakers passed legislation clearing the way for funds from the 2015 BP Oil Spill Settlement to be allocated to worthy projects.

The advisory board began accepting applications on June 3rd and will continue to do so until the application deadline on August 2nd.

After the applications are submitted, the Mississippi Development Authority, with recommendations from the Gulf Coast Restoration Fund Advisory Board, shall review, compile and score all applications received and will present them to the State Legislature by December 2nd of this year.

State lawmakers will then determine which projects will be funded through an appropriations bill during next year’s legislative session.

The following are eligible for submitting proposals: local units of government, non-governmental organizations, institutions for higher learning, community colleges, ports, airports, public and private partnerships, private, nonprofit entities, and local economic development groups.
