Anonymous Donors Pay Adoption Fees of Lonely Hearts Animals

If you are looking to adopt a furry friend, you could adopt one for free. The Humane Society of South Mississippi (H.S.S.M.) discounts the adoption fee for "lonely heart pets," or pets that have been in the shelter for more than 30 days.

An anonymous group of donors has decided to sponsor the adoption fees in full. H.S.S.M. is looking for just the right people to take these animals home. Marketing Specialist at the H.S.S.M., Krystyna Schmitt, says it is so important for these dogs to find a home because staying in the shelter for too long can place a strain on the animal.

Schmitt says, “We still have 19 dogs that are completely sponsored, we just need somebody to come and take them home. They are all shapes and sizes. They’re great dogs. You’ll find some of the best dogs in the lonely hearts category because they tend to get overlooked.”

Abbey Fisher, who is adopting a pet, says, “I hope a lot of people take the chance to get the dogs that this great person bought for them.”

The sponsorships expire after Saturday and the shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
