Annual State of the City Address in Moss Point

The annual Moss Point State of the City Address took place tonight at Pelican Landing in Moss Point.

“He’s done a great job and I wanted to come out and support him, anything I could do, I’m willing to do it.” A year after being elected into office, Mayor Mario King addressed a room full of Moss Point residents during his first ever State of the City Address. “I just hope people got a clear and concise understanding of where we’re going, where we’ve been, and how much progress we’ve made,” said Mayor King.

Mayor Mario King says over the past year, the city has dramatically decreased its spending and has also begun focusing on bringing grants and federal money into the city. Ward 2 Alderman Chuck Redmond said, “He’s came in. He’s hit the ground running and maybe everyone doesn’t agree the style he’s using right now, but we’re getting results.”

Most recently, Moss Point officials attended the Jackson County Board of Supervisors meeting where they were approved for a $1.5 million paving project. “He goes to conferences. He reaches out to the different entities, trying to form a partnership with these groups. If you have more partners it can only help you in the long run,” said Redmond.

Mayor King says he hopes that by the end of his term, he can leave the City of Moss Point with a three million dollar contingency budget as well as a three million dollar daily operations budget.
