Annual Cleveland Clinic Obesity Summit

The 12th annual Cleveland Clinic Obesity Summit took place today at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
The two day event was co-hosted by the National Diabetes and Obesity Research Institute, also known as NDORI, in affiliation with the Cleveland Clinic.
Mississippi ranked number two in the nation for obesity and is at the center of the diabetes epidemic with nearly a third of its residents diagnosed with diabetes. The mission of NDORI is to reduce diabetes rates nationally.
Cleveland Clinic officials tell News 25 what they hope to accomplish with the Mississippi partnership. Cleveland Clinic Endocrinology and Metabolism Institute Chairman James Young said, “I think to have brought care paths and programs in that we can demonstrate an impact, lessen the incident of diabetes, decrease obesity, and perhaps work with the way care is provided through insurance plans through employee plans to try to help out with the epidemic.”
The summit was also live simulcast at the Intercontinental Hotel and Conference Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
