Anniversary Of Same Sex Marriage

Sunday marked one year since same-sex marriage was legalized in the United States. June 26, 2015 was when the US Supreme Court ruled bans on same-sex marriage unconstitutional. Making it possible for couples like Douglas Myatt and Brandon Hall of Ocean Springs to make their commitment official. The two have been engaged for two years and are planning to get married this October. Myatt tells news 25 the he’s happy it’s now legal to get married where he and his fiancé fell in love.
Douglas Myatt tells News 25, “We both felt really strongly we wanted to wait until it was legal here in Mississippi, we didn’t want to- necessarily have to California and get married. We wanted to do it where we live and where we love we didn’t know how long we’d have to wait. But it was a great surprise that we get to do it so soon.”
Myatt says that for everyone to be treated equally is a basic human right. The two are celebrating the anniversary of when they first met.
