An argument over work done on a vehicle led to Gulfport shooting
An argument over work done on a vehicle led to a shooting and two men dead in Gulfport on Monday.
Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer said Emael Sims, 40, and Ambrose “Mr. Charlie” Charles, 73, both of Gulfport, got into an argument over vehicle work Charles was doing.
The argument escalated and Sims was shot multiple times, Switzer said.
Gulfport Police said they tried to get Charles, who was identified as the suspect, to drop his weapon and surrender, but he allegedly fired at the officers, who retired fire. After police fired at Charles, he managed to run into a wooded area nearby, police said.
“As offices approached Mr. Charles to try to get him to surrender, he shot himself in front of officers, Switzer said.
Charles died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Switzer said.
Because Gulfport police fired their weapons, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was called in to lead the investigation, along with Biloxi Police, Harrison County Sheriff’s Department and the Harrison County District Attorney’s Office.
