American Legion Post 42 finds a home in Ocean Springs
American Legion Post 42 in Ocean Springs finally has a place to call home.
Their original building on Iberville Drive was demolished in the 1980s and they’ve been looking for a new meeting location ever since. After the old building was demolished the city promised to help them find a new place. On Tuesday night, the city signed a lease for two rooms at the old Taconi Gymnasium for Post 42 to move in to.
Post 42 Chaplain Carl King says they’re excited to finally have a place to not only hold meetings, but plan community service activities and to just bond and share memories. “It means to us that the community now recognizes that we present such a facet for the community or advantage to the community that we’re good citizens that require low upkeep, just a place to meet and to call home. We have that now and we’re so excited about being able to sit down together and to make plans for the future, what we can do.”
Over the past few years, Post 42 has met temporarily for an hour a week at the senior citizen’s center. They plan to be fully moved into the new permanent location by the end of next week.
