Alpha Kappa Alpha International Impact Day

Today was Alpha Kappa Alpha Incorporated’s International Impact Day and the sorority’s local chapter decided to donate the money they raised to a Mississippi HBCU.

AKA chapters from all across the world dedicated the day to raising money to support historically black colleges and universities.

The Theta Zeta Omega chapter, which has 115 members from Jackson, Harrison, and Hancock counties, hosted a virtual tailgate party to celebrate the chapter’s fundraising efforts.

The sorority’s goal was to raise $1 million across all its chapters. President Theresa Haynes said, “The money will go towards educating our youth and educating our future. We want to make sure that we as women continue to give to our community, to provide service to all of mankind and to make sure that everyone has a quality education. That’s been one of our mottos and that’s something that we will continue to do as Alpha Kappa Alpha women.”

The Theta Zeta Omega chapter raised $19,080 to be donated to Tougaloo University in Jackson where one of their chapter members, Dr. Carmen Walters, is the president.
