Airport growth and impact in Gulfport
Million dollar projects and new airlines are a few examples of the expansion at Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport.
Executive Director Clay Williams updated a crowd during Gulfport Connection this morning on the progress of the airport. Current projects include a six million dollar overlaying of the main runway, an 800 thousand dollar jet bridge installed at gate four, and a 500 thousand dollar hangar project. Plus, the airport welcomes Allegiant Air this August which flies passengers Wednesdays and Saturdays to Orlando, Florida.
Williams added the airport employs over 500 people plus the National Guard presence nearby and has a direct impact to our economy at an estimated $191 million annually. “What’s next is we’ll continue to work on our capital improvement projects. We’ve got some sights around the airport that we’d love to be able to develop in the not too distant future and in addition keep working with our existing airlines to grow their service and look at new ones as well.”
First responders were also awarded for their hard work and dedication during the event. Those awarded included hospitalmen Keagen Cecil with the United States Navy, Gulfport Firefighter Phil Biancamano, Lt. Joseph Ashmore with the Gulfport Police Department and Toby Woodward with AMR.
