AFA John C. Stennis Teacher of the Year

A Gulfport High School teacher received an unexpected award today.
Engineering and robotics teacher Clint Brawley was not only given the AFA John C. Stennis Teacher of the Year Award for the local chapter, but also state wide he has been named Teacher of the Year.
Brawley was nominated by his students for being dedicated to furthering STEM education. He tells News 25, under his leadership, students were able to build a lift that can lower handicap people into a boat. “None of this could have happened without students that are willing to take on these bigger than life projects that we do. Just this year, we took our big robot all the way to the world championship and came within a couple of matches of winning that. Took another group to MIT with our invention process. It’s just a great group of kids to work with and I’m just silly enough to go along for the ride with them.”
Mississippi’s President for Air Force Association Theresa Anderson tells News 25 one of the main reasons Brawley was chosen is because he thinks out of the box to reach the community, even holding events at Barnes and Noble to raise interest in engineering and science.
