Administration finds no evidence of assault by Gulfport fire chief

Gulfport Fire Chief Mike Beyerstedt will remain in his position following a report of assault on a fellow firefighter.

A statement issued by Gulfport’s Chief Administrative Officer John R. Kelly says the investigation into the incident involving the fire chief and two other firemen from the department revealed no conclusive evidence of an assault of any kind.

Kelly did say that Chief Beyerstedt acted in a manner and made comments that were unbecoming of a leader and a city department head and that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.

Kelly added that Chief Beyerstedt is a very capable and effective leader and continues to have the confidence and support of his administration.
