Abortion bill advances to Mississippi House

Mississippi lawmakers are moving forward with Senate Bill 2116.

This bill makes abortion illegal after heart beat is detected. It was passed by the Public Health Committee yesterday and is headed to the full House for debate. If the bill goes into effect, it will be the earliest abortion ban in the country.

Last year, the state implemented a 15 week abortion ban, but a federal judge declared the law unconstitutional.

Governor Phil Bryant says he will sign the new bill into law.
