All aboard the IMMS Express
With the recent expansions at the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies, employees and visitors needed a fun and fast way to get around and a brand new train was the obvious choice.
The train, which came to the Gulf Coast all the way from China, is now making laps between the original IMMS campus and the new Ocean Adventures Facility, giving all guests in need a lift. It serves two purposes, as a short but fun-filled, educational tour that also makes it possible to handle larger crowds more efficiently.
Denise Reinke with IMMS tells News 25 that so far the train is a huge hit since it started rolling. “It’s made it a little easier. We went from a very scheduled, structured program to a little bit more free roaming so that we could accommodate a lot more guests. We’ve been able to do that and open it more to the public. I think they’ve enjoyed that aspect as well and within that process we take them, just give them a little behind the scenes tour, talk about our conservation, our rehabilitation, and things like that we’re doing as well.”
If you’re looking to hop on board, the new Ocean Adventures Facility is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. with ticket sales ending at 2 p.m.
