A Change of Command Ceremony Took Place at Keesler Air Force Base

A change of command ceremony was held bright and early this morning at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi.
After two years as commander at Keesler, Brigadier General Patrick Higby passed along the 81st Training Wing Commander position to Colonel Michele Edmondson.
Col. Edmonson said, “I’m ecstatic. We couldn’t be more happy to be here. My family’s excited to be here. My children have never looked forward to a move and they couldn’t wait to get here so, we’re excited not to just be a part of Keesler and the 81st Training Wing but the whole community.”
Edmondson comes to Keesler from Texas where she was a commander at Lackland Air Force Base. Edmondson had her husband and two kids sitting in the audience watching her on this special day.
Commander Mark Brown said, “The AETC commander told me this is the best colonel that I have to give you. This is the best colonel of all the colonels I have in Air Education and Training Command to give you, and I told my four star general: ‘thank you, I’ll take her.’”
Edmondson tells News 25 she has a lot to look forward to and there will be some challenges as the new commander: “I think people are hard and taking care of the people is hard. I think if you take good care of the people then the mission takes care of itself. So, that’s really my number one priority is taking care of our great airmen.”
The ceremony ended with a parade and numerous salutes from airmen to General Higby as he moves to his next mission in Washington at the Pentagon.
The respect Edmondson had for Higby was obvious. “It was a great ceremony and a great send off for General Higby, truly was,” she said.
