AT&T works out deal with labor union

AT&T representatives have ironed out a deal with the Communications Workers of America, ending the four-day strike involving more than 20,000 workers.

According to the Associated Press, the union and the company would not say what was resolved to end the demonstration.

The union had protested that AT&T was not sending officials with authority to make decisions to bargain over new contracts.

According to Glenn Posey, the local president of CWA 3519, local AT&T workers are among those in nine states throughout the Southeast who have been picketing the past four days, asking for the communications giant to implement better labor practices.

AT&T heard the call and both parties reached an agreement this morning at 3 a.m.

Posey says all AT&T workers will be back on the job today, but he wants to specifically thank South Mississippians for the outpouring of support they have shown over the past few days as they’ve picketed in our area.
