Bay St. Louis breaks ground on new police station

Bay St. Louis Police will soon — and finally — have a place to call home.

The department, along with city and state officials, broke ground Tuesday on a $4.5 million, 10,000 square foot facility on Main Street.

The 30-man department has been moving from place to place since they had to close the old building in 2017 because of mold. The department was working out of Fire Station 1 before moving to City Hall until the work is complete.

The new station house will have interview rooms, booking area, holding area, evidence room and a forensics processing area in addition to workspace for the officers and administration.

The station will be just west of the fire station on Main Street that has been used as overflow parking.
