Waveland alderman Jeremy Burke has announced he is running for mayor.

The Ward 1 representative sent his announcement out this morning, saying he will run on the Republican ticket.

“After much thought, consideration and prayer, along with support and encouragement from family and many of you, I qualified as a Republican candidate for mayor of Waveland,” Burke said in the press release.

He has served as the Ward 1 alderman for the city since his election in 2014.

Current Mayor Mike Smith announced earlier this month he would not seek re-election, citing health issues. Smith has served as Waveland’s mayor for two terms.

General elections are Dec. 6 in Waveland.
