National Donut Day with the Salvation Army

National Donut Day is tomorrow, but our area’s Salvation Army hit the streets today with the breakfast treat.

The Salvation Army actually started National Donut Day in 1938 to honor their ‘Donut Lassies,’ women who delivered donuts and sweet treats to soldiers serving on the frontlines in World War I.

This year, the tradition continues in George and Jackson counties, where the Salvation Army delivered Krispy Kreme donuts to police and fire stations as part of their commitment to service. Salvation Army Corps Officer Lt. Carla Lawson said, “Over the years, we are no longer in 1938, so in 2022 we are out serving and doing what we can, especially here on the Coast, we see a lot of natural disasters, a lot of hurricanes, didn’t want to say that word, but we’re here.”
