Jackson County holding second annual Sand Jam

June 11th at Pascagoula’s Beach Park, the Jackson County Recreation Department will host its second annual Sand Jam 2022 ‘Turtle Up Mississippi.’

The Sand Jam is a celebration of Mississippi’s native wildlife and habitats. This free event has more than 20 activity booths, live turtle ambassadors, kayaking, fishing for children 15 and under, a turtle art competition for all ages, beach games, NOAA’s turtle hurdle, giveaways, and much more.

Outdoor Recreation Specialist Barbara Medlock said, “We are trying to just really celebrate our wildlife, get people educated about what Mississippi wildlife we have here on the Coast and how do we respect wildlife. We have so many people coming to this event, hosting booths that are wildlife biologists, wildlife veterinarians, ecologist, naturalists, rehabilitation experts.”

The Sand Jam is happening June 11th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pascagoula’s Beach Park.
