Travelers discuss reasons for choosing Memorial Day locations
Memorial Day is a time that family and friends can come together and enjoy each other’s company.
At the pier on Courthouse Road, beachgoers were asked why they chose to attend this specific spot. Several answers included the view, the company, and the beach, but the most common answer was the proximity and the ability to get there.
That most common factor was the price of gas. Beachgoer Ira Thigpen said, “Every time I pull up to a pump I start crying. Yes indeed, what use to cost me 20-25 to fill up, I’m spending at least 50 or better. That’s about half a tank and an 18-gallon tank, ain’t that a shame.”
People continually expressed their traveling concerns not only for Memorial Day, but the holidays to come.
The rise in the price of gas will continue to make things difficult, whether going near or far.
