Expanding the West Central Historic District in Biloxi

Residents in Biloxi have the chance to let their voices be heard.

On Thursday, the Architectural and Historical Review Commission wants to hear your thoughts on expanding the West Central Historic District.

The new area being considered is all land facing Division Street from the new Keesler Gate to Forrest Avenue just to the west of I-110.

Many historic districts already run throughout Biloxi, including the Howard Avenue and Lameuse Street districts. Biloxi Historical Administrator Bill Raymond said, “As the city is working toward the new Keesler Gate and the whole redevelopment of Division Street, we know there are a lot of historical resources in there. We want to be able to protect those resources and to be able to make sure that redevelopment happens in such a way that is conducive with that historic neighborhood.”

The meeting will take place at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Municipal Building starting at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday. The Biloxi City Council will eventually give a final decision on the expansion some time in a future meeting.
